On-Line Surveys
To conduct a survey on the internet or an intranet (corporate-based), a questionnaire is programmed, pre-tested and then posted on a web server. A web-based survey can include many pages of eye-catching graphics, complex branching, and data validation, or can be as simple as a one-page form with just a few data fields. Respondents are contacted and given the internet address (URL) for the survey. Since access may not be limited to the population of interest, an ID or password can be issued. The answers from each respondent are aggregated into a data file as each survey is completed. Anyone with internet access, including those subscribing to America Online®, Prodigy®, or CompuServe®, as well as individuals and businesses connected via an internet service provider (ISP) can be reached this way.
